Copper Hills and Brighton girls varsity basketball teams squared off Thursday, Jan. 21, at Brighton High School in Salt Lake City. In a closely contested battle Copper Hills would pull out the road victory 54-45.

Each year the 5A girls basketball tournament proves to be one of the best in the state, with plenty of upsets and fantastic games to keep fans coming back night after night. This season should be no different.

Copper Hills and Layton both come into the state tournament with perfect 21-0 records, but they’re on the same side of the bracket and could be headed for a semifinal showdown. Nobody, however, should discount Bingham, American Fork, Sky View, Brighton, Fremont or Riverton, six other teams that could just as easily hoist the trophy on championship Saturday.
