BYU's Provo campus was ranked the safest in the nation by Business Insider, based on criteria such as security, crime rates and alcohol and drug abuse.
The timing couldn't be more ironic.
The No. 1 designation was given to BYU within a week of the news breaking that Utah head basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak decided to cancel the Utes' visit to Provo to play the Cougars next season, citing player safety as his primary concern.
Fans from BYU have reacted to the news of the cancelation with humor, wearing hard hats to a subsequent basketball game and using the hashtag #safetyfirst in social media.
BYU-Idaho in Rexburg, Idaho, came in at 10th place. The full rankings of safe campuses can be seen at businessinsider.com.
