Police say Antonio Justin Rosa called 911 to report the fire he allegedly set at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 2394 W. 2200 South, an unincorporated area of Cache County, on Monday, June 15, 2015.

LOGAN — Police say an 18-year-old Logan man broke into an LDS church over the weekend and set a fire in the kitchen.

Antonio Justin Rosa called 911 about 2:30 a.m. Monday to report the fire he allegedly set at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 2394 W. 2200 South, an unincorporated area of Cache County.

"Mr. Rosa had gained access to the church by breaking a window. He admitted to starting the fire because he hates churches," Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen reported.

Fire crews located the blaze in the kitchen and serving area, Jensen said. Firefighters removed the burning stove from the building and kept the fire contained to the kitchen.

"It could have been a lot worse," Jensen said.

Rosa was booked into Cache County Jail and charged in 5th District Court on Monday with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, and burglary, a third-degree felony.

Police have had some dealings with Rosa in the past, including as a juvenile, but "nothing to indicate something like this would happen," Jensen said.
