Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have increasingly encouraged members to use technology and social media to share the gospel in recent years.
To assist in the cause, Larry Richman has published a 70-page book titled "101 Ways to Hasten the Work Online," which offers simple and practical ways for that purpose.
"We live in a remarkable age of technological miracles that I believe the Lord has inspired to accomplish his purposes," Richman, an online marketing professional who has worked for the LDS Church, stated in a press release. "The Lord is hastening his work and expects members to step up the pace, open our mouths, and use our fingers to tell others about the happiness that comes through living the gospel."
Richman said he finished the book only weeks before Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve spoke at BYU Campus Education Week in August and invited Latter-day Saints to "sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth — messages that are authentic, edifying, and praiseworthy — and literally to sweep the earth as with a flood."
The book addresses the concepts of hastening the work, Internet and social media basics, what church leaders have said on the topic, and tips for how to share the gospel online.
Among the 101 ideas, Richman suggested creating social media accounts, posting gospel photos with comments, following the LDS Church and leaders and sharing what they post, creating a blog, rating LDS books and films and indexing records on FamilySearch.org.
