The Westminster women’s volleyball team closed out its trip to the Sports Travel Northwest Invitational with a four-set loss to Northwest on Saturday afternoon at the HUB Sports Center.

Westminster dropped to 3-2 on the season with the 25-21, 21-25, 24-26, 17-25 loss. The win improved Northwest to 1-3 on the early season.

The Griffins finished the match with a 54-45 advantage in kills after starting the afternoon by hitting .278 with 15 kills in the opening set. They hit .204 for the match but couldn’t overcome 25 hitting errors to the 14 by the Eagles in the match. Westminster also faced an 11-5 deficit in service aces.

Alexis Aalona led three Griffins in double figures with 15 kills, and she hit .217 in the match. Aalona added 11 digs to notch her second double-double of the weekend. Amara Culpepper hit .476 in the match with 12 kills and two blocks, while Jessica Chellsen added 10 kills to hit .318. Taylor Gustafson also had a double-double with 32 assists and 11 digs.

Rae Ann Haistings led the way for Northwest with 11 kills with her teammate Amanda Waterman posting 10 kills. Leia Roy finished with 22 digs to lead all players.

Westminster returns to action Friday when it opens a four-match weekend at the Asics/Wyndham Labor Day Classic in Irvine, California. The first match at the event is against Concordia.
