DAY 6: The Utes practiced for 2 ½ hours Saturday morning at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It was a tackle session with a lot of live work.

“Our guys competed well,” said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. “We had some guys make some plays.”

Although Whittingham noted that the defensive line wasn’t real good because the Utes are short-handed at tackle this spring with four projected contributors not in the mix until fall camp, he was pleased with the practice overall.

“We stayed healthy — a few bumps and bruises — and so we’ll look at the film and move on to the next practice on Tuesday,” Whittingham said.

STANDOUTS: Whittingham identified sophomore wide receiver Dominique Hatfield as probably the biggest standout in practice.

“He’s really starting to come into his own,” Whittingham said.

NEXT UP: The Utes resume camp next week with two practices — Tuesday (3-5 p.m.) and Thursday (3-5 p.m.) — and a scrimmage on Friday (4-6 p.m.).
