Both Mormon snowboarders competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics slopestyle competition in Sochi, Russia, qualified Thursday to compete again on Feb. 9 in the semifinals and finals
Australian snowboarder Torah Bright, 27, is one of eight competitors to head to the finals and Jessika Jenson, 22, of Rigby, Idaho, will compete in the semifinals to earn a spot in the finals.
“What a beautiful morning to start the slope style qualifications. Cheering on all my fellow shredders ,” Bright tweeted before the qualification round with a photo of the sunrise. Bright won gold in the halfpipe in 2010 in Vancouver and is competing in three different snowboard competitions this Olympics.
In the slopestyle competition, the slope has various obstacles, like rails, quarterpipes and jumps. Six judges score the competitors and the best score of the two runs counts. Bright’s best score was 85.25 and Jenson’s was 58.50.
The opening ceremony will be Friday, Feb. 7.
