OREM — The Utah Valley University women's basketball team picked up a win over Adams State on Friday night, 85-50, in its lone exhibition contest of the season.
"In an exhibition game you're just trying to see what you have as a team and I think we saw we can do some really good things, but we also saw that we have some things to work on," 19th-year head coach Cathy Nixon said. "There are a few management things we need to get better at, particularly on the defensive end, but those are things I feel confident we can remedy."
Kuklok also pulled in a game-high nine rebounds.
As a team, UVU shot 53 percent from the floor and forced 20 Grizzly turnovers. All 13 players on the 2013-14 roster saw game action, with nine appearing in the scoring column.
ASU was led by 14 points from Lena Jaycox and 12 from Alyssa Palma.
"I was pleased with the composure of our team, especially with so many girls who haven't been battle tested yet," Nixon said. "But they displayed a calm demeanor and I felt that same confidence coaching them tonight."
Utah Valley will have a week to prepare for its regular season opener when Nevada rolls into Orem next Friday. That contest tips off at 4 p.m. in the UCCU Center and will precede the men's basketball season opener against IUPUI at 7 p.m.
