COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A concerned neighbor called police Tuesday night when she thought she smelled marijuana, leading police to a drugs and weapons bust.

Officers arrived shortly after the 11 p.m. call and could smell marijuana smoke coming through an open window, Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Gary Young said.

The man who answered the door was holding a loaded handgun, which he was attempting to conceal behind his body, Young said. Inside the home, officers found a stash of guns, including an AR-15, an AK-47 and several shotguns and handguns as they executed a search warrant, he said. They also found a single marijuana plant and about 145 grams of cultivated pot that had been packaged.

"The way it was packaged up and the amounts, it was for more than just personal use," Young said.

Police arrested 27-year-old Fred Mismash and booked him into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of possession of weapons by a restricted person, possession of drug paraphernalia, marijuana cultivation and drug possession with intent to distribute.

The weapons were confiscated, Young said.
