SALT LAKE CITY — The second-ranked Westminster men’s lacrosse team won for the third time in five days by defeating St. Mary’s (Calif.) 19-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Dumke Field.

Westminster has now won three consecutive games and sits at 9-4 overall this season. St. Mary’s falls to 4-8 on the year with the loss.

It was another good performance from the Griffins offense as they scored the 19 goals on 48 shots. They put 33 of those attempts on cage while also picking up 11 assists. Westminster won 17-of-25 faceoffs and also held a 39-23 edge in ground balls.

Adam Marfice finished with a game-high six points behind his five goals and one assist. He led the team with 11 shots with eight on target and five ground balls. Elias Fairman, Collin Madsen and Kyle Postler scored three goals apiece with Cole Christensen posting four assists with his one goal.

Collin Madsen won 6-of-7 draws from the faceoff X and led the team with seven ground balls. Chris Burckle and Erik Gronseth each made six saves and allowed two goals during their halves in goal.

Nicolaas Vanderklu led St. Mary’s with three goals and six shots. Andrew Hax posted 14 saves in goal.

Westminster will return to action Monday when it hosts Utah State. The game was moved up two days from its original scheduled date and will begin at 4 p.m. at Dumke Field.
