MAGNA — A Riverton man has been charged with stealing and attempting to sell brass nameplates from a Magna cemetery.
Paul Eugene Peterson, 36, was charged Monday in 3rd District Court with theft, a third-degree felony, and attempted theft by deception, a class B misdemeanor.
Police say Peterson stole at least five grave markers from Pleasant Green Cemetery, 3500 S. 9200 West, and attempted to sell the brass to Custom Industries. The store wouldn't accept them.
One woman had reported two nameplates missing from the cemetery, charges state. The nameplates were valued at between $1,300 and $1,800.
