SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff is scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday on his artificial knee.1 comment on this story
Shurtleff had to be transported to a hospital Saturday after dislocating the knee during an evening out with his wife. Doctors put his knee back into place, immobilized it and sent him home. Surgery was scheduled to repair ligament damage and permanently stabilize the knee.
"I plan on walking on it by the weekend," he said in an email.
Shurtleff has had an artificial knee since 2000. It has seen a lot of wear and tear over the years, he said, including a motorcycle accident several years ago.
The three-term attorney general, who is not seeking re-election, has also undergone chemotherapy for Stage 3 colon cancer. He was deemed cancer free last summer.
