COALVILLE — An 11-year-old boy is in critical condition following an ATV accident Tuesday.

About 3 p.m., the Summit County Sheriff's Office received an emergency call about an ATV accident on private property near 3300 E. Chalk Creek Road, about 14 miles east of Coalville.

Witnesses told police the boy lost control of the ATV and veered off the side of the road, causing the machine to roll. The boy was thrown from the ATV, according to the sheriff's office. Another 11-year-old boy was riding with the boy but was not injured.

The boy, who sustained head trauma, was transported by medical helicopter to an area hospital.

Both boys were wearing helmets, officials said, but the injured boy's helmet came off during the accident.
