CEDAR CITY — Three people were arrested Monday following the discovery of a large marijuana garden outside of Cedar City.
Acting on a tip from a citizen, agents from the Iron County Sheriff's Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Forest Service and the Iron/Garfield Narcotics Task Force started at 5 a.m. the take down of a pot field near Pinto, Utah, about 18 miles west of Cedar City. Up to 4,000 plants were seized, said Iron County Sheriff Mark Gower.
Three people, all with California addresses, were arrested. Gower said the three were believed to be working for a drug cartel out of Mexico. One of the three arrested was in the country illegally, he said.
Several weapons, including shotguns, were also seized.
Gower said his deputies have been busting at least one large scale outdoor marijuana grow in their region each year for the past six years.
