FARMINGTON — Portions of Burke Lane west of the D&RGW trail to 1875 West will be widened and a new four-way stop intersection will be created.

The city, some adjacent property owners and a developer will be sharing in costs associated with widening.

With the addition of a subdivision on the south side of Burke Lane currently being constructed, the City Council voted recently to assist with road improvements on the north side of Burke at the same time.

Some abutting residents in the area will also be bearing some of the costs of these improvements based on previously existing agreements with the city.

When the project is complete, the asphalt section will be widened to accommodate safer bicycle and vehicle use. There will also be new sidewalk sections on both sides of the street for pedestrian use and safer access to the rail trail.

Also, the southern portion of 1825 West will be blocked to vehicle access, creating a dead end street and eliminating a challenging diagonal street configuration.
