RIVERTON — The mayor and City Council have decided to contract with Salt Lake County for animal control services effective July 1. In addition, all dog licensing will be transferred to Salt Lake County on that date.

With animal control services being provided by the county, an officer will be available to respond to calls for service weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and from noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays, with emergency response services available 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

The county shelter, 511 W. 3900 South, is open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Riverton residents can contact the county shelter by phone at 801-559-1100.

All current Riverton licenses will remain valid until their expiration date. At that time they will be renewed through Salt Lake County. Licenses will no longer be available at Riverton City Hall or through the local veterinarians after July 1.
