SMITHFIELD, Cache County — An Idaho woman died Wednesday after hitting a pickup head-on U.S. Highway 91.
Audry Long, 77, of Preston, was traveling north when she crossed into oncoming traffic, Smithfield police chief Johnny McCoy said. The accident occurred 180 N. Main Street a little after 3 p.m.
Long was transported to a hospital were she was pronounced dead. Two teenagers traveling in the pickup were not injured.
McCoy said it is not yet known what caused Long to enter oncoming traffic but police believe that a pre-existing condition may have contributed to the crash. The accident is still under investigation.
"We're hoping the medical examiner will be able to answer some questions for us," he said.
