MANILA, Daggett County — A man died Friday morning after leading Utah and Wyoming authorities on a chase before shooting himself, according to authorities.
James Ray EagleRoad, 21, was pronounced dead at Evanston Regional Hospital Friday. Early in the morning, EagleRoad attempted to break into a vehicle in Vernal and fled from authorities, at one point ramming a Daggett County Sheriff's vehicle, according Uinta County, Wyo., officials.
EagleRoad crossed the Utah-Wyoming border, where Wyoming authorities deployed road spikes to stop his vehicle. He was ordered to exit the vehicle but did not comply and instead began brandishing a firearm.
Officials say EagleRaod eventually exited the vehicle. Officers used bean bag rounds, hitting EagleRoad and knocking him to the ground. Officers then approached him and used a tazer in an attempt to further subdue him, but EagleRoad gained control of his weapon a fired at himself.
The incident is being investigated by the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office Division of Criminal Investigation. Authorities say the truck EagleRoad was driving had been stolen Thursday night form Lander, Wyo.
