Dry cleaning bills are about to increase and wire hangers are the reason.
The U.S. imposed trade penalties on wire hangers from Vietnam last week, according to CNNMoney. Many American dry cleaning companies have become more reliant on Vietnamese-made wire hangers in recent years.
"Two dry cleaners in my neighborhood just closed. We are struggling with costs," Flora Yadegar, who runs four dry cleaning businesses in California, told CNNMoney. Gas and hangers are her two biggest costs after rent, both of which have gone up in the last three years.
Yadegar expects her hanger costs to go up soon, she told CNNMoney. She's already thinking of raising prices by as much as 55 cents per suit, shirt or a pair of pants in the next few days.
3Hanger Supply Company buys all of its wire hangers from Vietnam, Sam Monempour, vice president of the company, told CNNMoney. He believes the new trade penalties will force the company to raise prices from 5 cents to 9 cents for each hanger and that other companies will do the same. Yadegar buys hangers from 3Hanger Supply Company for her outlets.
