"PAPER MADE! 101 Exceptional Projects to Make Out of Everyday Paper," by Kayte Terry, Workman Publishing, $16.95, 248 pages (nf)
"Paper Made! 101 Exceptional Projects to Make Out of Everyday Paper" is the latest crafty offering from Kayte Terry. Terry is an expert crafter, designer and stylist living in Philadelphia. Her craft projects have appeared in various magazines, with her first craft book, "Complete Embellishing," published in July 2008. She has also been featured on HGTV, GetCrafty, Etsy and Design*Sponge. She's a blogger at www.thisisloveforever.com, where she shares her craft ideas and features other artists and links.
"Paper Made!" is a craft instruction book based on using craft paper scraps and everyday sources of paper. The designs are broken up into projects for the home, fashion projects and wrapping and writing projects. Each description is color documented, with each step demonstrated and well written out. Projects range in difficulty from one dot to five, based on the complexity of the steps and the number of materials and techniques required.
Each description also provides a very specific list of what is needed, and many give a time estimate so crafters can choose projects for an afternoon or a whole weekend. This book has plenty to choose from for crafters from beginners to experts. An additional feature of this book is the connection to the Workman website at www.workman.com/features/papermade, where templates for many of the fonts and shapes are downloadable without additional charge.
This volume is a very family-friendly offering, giving resourceful mothers options for a lot of rainy-day activities for children and teenagers. The directions are precise and easy to follow, giving options to crafters, young and old, to bring new life to rooms, clothing and school supplies. "Paper Made!" puts old phone books, newspapers and paper scraps to work, turning "paper junk" into paper treasures.
