PANGUITCH, Garfield County — A Panguitch woman died Monday after she turned into oncoming traffic.

Mary K. Beck, 30, had stopped her vehicle at a stop sign on Sanford Creek Road around 5:30 p.m., Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson said Wednesday. When she turned south onto U.S. 89, she turned into oncoming traffic.

A van was traveling north on U.S. 89 and struck Beck's vehicle in a "T-bone style crash," Johnson said. Beck, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from her vehicle.

She was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The van was carrying two passengers, both from Cedar City, who were not injured in the crash. They were transported to the hospital for observation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, though Johnson said there are no indications that impairment or speeds were factors in the crash.

"(It appears it was) just an unsafe movement on her part from that stop sign," he said.
