GRANTSVILLE — Stansbury and Dixie collided in the elimination bracket of the 3A state baseball tournament Saturday, and Stansbury found ways to survive and advance.

Brek Bentley pitched a complete game and struck out 11 to lead the Stallions to a 6-1 win. Gavin Graff went 2-3 and had an RBI for Dixie.

“It feels great to win after a tough loss like we had this morning,” said Bentley with a smile. “We didn’t want to just roll over and have our season end. We knew we needed a win to keep it going, and that’s what we did.”

Neither team got going until the top of the second when Bentley began his dominance. Bentley struck out the side, giving his team a lot of momentum heading into the home half of the inning.

The Stallions scored two runs in the second — the first off an RBI from Jarrett Anderson when he reached on an error. The second would come when Jackson Clausing scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.

After another 1-2-3 inning, the Stallions extended their lead to 3-0 on an RBI single from Alex Mackay. The Stallions scored two more in the fourth. Matt Lindsley reached on an error and Jarrett Anderson scored after hitting a double that was inches away from being a home run. Two batters later Wyatt Branch hit an RBI double to extend the Stallions’ lead to 5-0.

Another RBI single from Lindsley made it 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth before the Flyers scored their lone run off an RBI single from Graff in the sixth.

With the win the Stallions move on to face Delta on Thursday at 1:30 pm at Copper Hills. Dixie is eliminated with the loss.
