STANSBURY PARK, Utah — The Carbon High School Dinos traveled to Stansbury on Saturday to face the Region 11 champion Stansbury High Stallions in the first round of the 3A State Playoffs. Carbon didn’t seem fazed for even a second. They beat the Stallions easily, 8-0 behind an excellent game from pitcher, Dakota Cisneros. Cisneros pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits against a very explosive Stansbury offense.

“It felt good,” Cisneros said. "It’s been a while since I’ve thrown, but we played great defense, and it was a great outcome.”

Carbon got things going in the first when Bryce Blackburn hit an RBI single to drive in the game’s first run. Jake Nichols followed it up with an RBI double to make it 2-0, and the Dinos were off to a great start.

Cisneros went to work in the first, getting the first two Stallions to ground out. Jake Witkowski got an infield hit, but was caught stealing to end the inning. Cisneros managed the game very well, forcing the Stallions to ground or flyout just about every at bat.

The Dinos got one more run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Dylan Vogrinec, and scored two more in the fifth off of RBI doubles from Cisneros and Jaren McCourt. The score was 5-0 heading to the sixth.

The Stallions were able to get a little something going in the fourth inning when Marcos Chacon and Jesse Clingman hit back to back singles. A fielder’s choice put runners on the corners, but Tyson Haddon grounded out to end the inning, stranding two runners on base.

The Dinos got three more insurance runs in the sixth. Julian Tamllos hit a two-RBI double, and Blackburn hit a sacrifice fly to give the Dinos the 8-0 lead.

Cisneros shut the Stallions down in the sixth and seventh inning, and that was the ball game.

“We were patient and waited for our pitches,” said Cisneros. “We took the ball the other way a couple times, and it ended up working out for us. We knew they were a great team and it ended up working out for us. We’re excited for the next one.”

The Dinos will play the winner of the Dixie-Park City game at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Stallions head to the loser’s bracket and will play the loser of that same game in Grantsville also at 4 p.m.
