SALT LAKE CITY — A 30-year old Utah County resident died Saturday when he was run over by a truck in a popular off-roading area west of Utah Lake.

Authorities said Joel Larson of American Fork was killed as he was attempting to push his stalled pickup down a hill near Lake Mountain.

According to a new release, witnesses — including Larson's wife — reported that their 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was having mechanical problems. The couple was trying to push the truck to a location where it could coast downhill.

During the effort, Larson was in front of the vehicle as it began to roll forward. He was unable to get out of the way and was dragged for a distance, then run over by the truck. Larson's wife sustained minor injuries.

Utah County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to scene and AirMed also responded to the area were they located the victim. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate him, but Larson sustained extensive injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
