SANDY — Elementary students in Canyons School District will continue to have early-out Fridays in the fall, but a proposed schedule change is still being considered by the board of education.
The board gave preliminary approval in March to an elementary school schedule that would end early-out Fridays in lieu of consistent class times throughout the week. Under the proposal, 20 minutes would be trimmed from each day and allocated to Friday, giving faculty a larger period of daily preparation time instead of a single block at the end of the week.
At their meeting on April 17, board president Tracy Cowdell indicated that a final vote on the schedule change was being delayed to allow for more input from parents and educators. On Friday, the district announced that discussion on the schedule would not move forward until after the start of the 2012-13 school year.
