LOGAN, Utah — Utah State softball will close out the 2012 season this weekend with a three-game series against Western Athletic Conference powerhouse and nationally ranked No. 12 Hawaii. The action in the series will open with a single game on Saturday, May 5, with first pitch being delivered from the circle at 2 p.m.
USU (17-33, 4-14 WAC) has not seen the field since wrapping up its series with New Mexico State last Saturday in Las Cruces, N.M. The Aggies captured their fourth conference win in the series, defeating NMSU 5-0 in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The Rainbow Wahine (40-5, 14-3 WAC) come to Logan having swept their series against Fresno State last weekend on the island. FS was sitting atop the WAC standings before the series. Hawaii is currently leading in the WAC standings with Brigham Young sitting in second and Fresno State in third. Utah State cannot qualify for the conference championship as Louisiana Tech captured its seventh win against Nevada last weekend. If USU were able to get to its seventh win in conference action, it still could not overtake La Tech since the Bulldogs hold the tiebreaker over the Aggies.
Following Saturday’s game, kids in attendance will be given the chance to run the bases on the field. Weather permitting, Utah State will also take the time before Sunday’s doubleheader to honor its four seniors on this year's squad. Fans are encouraged to support the USU seniors in their final games in an Aggie uniform.
There will be live stats available to fans during Saturday’s game at www.utahstateaggies.com. The Game Tracker links will be accessible to fans from the home page.
