RIVERTON —Police have identified the man they say took his own life after initiating a standoff Sunday that lasted until early Monday morning.

According to Unified Police Department Lt. Justin Hoyal, Roderick Hunt got into a verbal argument with his wife Sunday and as she left to get into her car a shot was fired from inside the house. Hunts wife called police and a Unified police SWAT team surrounded the house, located at 4962 W. Duncan Meadow Lane, after Hunt barricaded himself inside.

Just before 4 a.m., police sent a robot inside the house after not hearing from the man for several hours. The 31-year-old man was found dead in a bedroom, Hoyal said.

Hoyal said Hunt made threats to shoot police officers and himself. Several homes were evacuated as police attempted to talk the man into a peaceful surrender. Evacuated residents were allowed back into their homes shortly after 4 a.m.
