OREM, Utah — Two of the top hitting teams in the country face off this weekend at Brent Brown Ballpark as Utah Valley University hosts the University of Texas-Pan American in a four-game series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 4 p.m. with the finale scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Friday’s games will be part of the university’s celebration and ribbon-cutting of the new UVU Science Building, which is just northeast of the ballpark. The day will culminate with fireworks following the second game of the twin bill.

Both teams enter the weekend with perfect 8-0 marks in Great West Conference play and as two of the top batting and scoring teams in all of Division I baseball. The Wolverines (22-11) lead the country with a team average of .333 while the Broncs (21-7) are tied for third with a .330 average. UTPA ranks as the No. 2 scoring team with 8.5 runs per game with UVU in third with 8.2 per contest.

Utah Valley swept Chicago State in the Windy City last week after picking up a midweek win at Utah to run its win streak to a school-record-tying 15 games. The Wolverines had a huge week offensively, scoring 69 runs on 91 hits with 21 doubles and nine home runs over the five-game stretch.

Goose Kallunki enters the series as the league leader with seven home runs and 40 runs batted in. Game one will feature the Great West’s top two pitchers in terms of ERA, as Preston Olson (4-0, 2.50) will square off against league-leader Colby McCasland (3-0, 2.12).

The Broncs have won five straight, sweeping a weekend series against North Dakota in GWC play before a 9-2 win over UT-Brownsville on Tuesday night. Roger Bernal leads the conference and ranks fourth in the country with a .439 average.

Next week, UVU hosts third-place NJIT in a four-game conference series starting Thursday, April 26.
