PROVO — A Provo man was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Friday morning.

About 5:30 a.m., Jose Gamboa, 67, was trying to cross the Union Pacific tracks at 600 South and 700 West against a lowered rail crossing signal arm, when he stepped in front of an oncoming train and was hit, said Provo Police Sgt. Mathew Siufanua. 

Investigators say Gamboa was on his way to work.

As of noon, there were no known witnesses other than the train conductor. Anyone who saw the accident can call police at 801-852-6210.
