OREM, Utah — When the dust settled after Friday’s dual between Utah Valley University and Idaho State University at the Hal Wing Track and Field facility, the two teams were separated by nine points, with UVU coming out on top in the combined team total 153.5-144.5.
The UVU men’s team edged the Bengals by 13 points, 87.5-74.5, while the ISU women nipped UVU 70-66.
Shelise Walker (4:49.92) and Kalina Zufelt-Clegg (4:55.34) went 2-3 in the women’s 1,500 meters, while Chris Dorton (4:04.92) and Trevor Sharp (4:07.80) went 1-2 in the men’s 1,500 meters.
Krissy Knowles (15.39) and Makira Rackham (16.10) placed first and fourth, respectively, in the 100 hurdles, and Jordan Nelson (15.55) and Drew Clarke finished first and third, respectively, in the men’s 110 hurdles. Clarke (55.74) also finished second in the 400 hurdles.
Zandrea Nelson (55.64) and Chelsea Baker (58.53) took the top two spots in the 400 meters, while Michael Ashton placed third in the men’s 400 meters (52.82).
Anna Yeboah (12.81) and Rebecca Brown (12.96) led in the 100 meters, and Nicholas Taylor (11.22) and Jacob Brydson (11.33) finished second and third behind UVU’s Allah Laryea-Akrong, who was running unattached, in the men’s 110 meters. Brydson (21.89) finished second behind unattached Layrea-Akrong in the 200 meters.
UVU took the top two spots in the 800 meters with Aleina Eisenhauer-Winger (2:14.73) and Stephanie Talbot (2:19.24) going 1-2 on the women’s side, while Tim Rowberry (1:53.30) and Taylor Charles (1:59.24) went 1-2 on the men’s side.
The Wolverines also took the top two spots in the 3,000 meters with Baker (10:18.55) and Stephanie Christensen (10:24.61) on the women’s side and Cliff Nielson (8:25.19) and Macey Butterfield (8:57.91) on the men’s side.
Becca Hutton (159-03.50) and Maryn Pincock (131-09.75) went 1-3 in the women’s hammer and then switched spots in the shot put with Pincock (43-07.25) and Hutton (38-05.50).
The duo went 1-3 in the discus as well, with Pincock (149-05.25) and Hutton (129-08.25).
McKell Camp-Nielson (145-10.50) and Kelli Roach (133-05.50) placed first and second, respectively, in the women’s javelin, while Mark Jones (180-09) and Rusty Jones (135-07.25) placed first and third, respectively, in the men’s javelin.
Jessica Lingwall (15-11.75) and Hannah Stevenson (15-03.50) placed 1-2 in the women’s long jump and Zach Cook (19-11.25) earned five points for UVU in the men’s long jump.
Other notable performances were Knowles (4th, 400 hurdles, 1:07.50); Yeboah (third, 200m, 25.46); Aaron Best (second, shot put, 50-04.25); Rackham (second, high jump, 5-1); Jones (third, high jump, 5-10.75); and Lance Merrel (fourth, high jump, 5-10.75).
The Wolverines are back in action April 13 and April 14 at Utah and Weber State, respectively.
