SALT LAKE CITY — A man was taken into custody Monday after allegedly stabbing another man in the stomach, authorities said.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Josh Scharman said police responded to a hotel room at 754 W. North Temple and found a man, 40, with a stab injury to his abdomen. He was transported to University Hospital in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Sharman said police found the suspect and a witness in the hotel room. The suspect complied with police and was arrested. Police believe the two men got into a verbal altercation that escalated into the stabbing but the exact circumstances of the man's injuries are still under investigation.
