Utah State softball will host its first home series of the 2012 season as it prepares to take on Western Athletic Conference foe Nevada in a three-game weekend series. Friday’s games will be the first action LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field has seen since May 7, 2011, when USU defeated Louisiana Tech, 11-10, in a offensive battle.

The Aggies (9-20, 1-2 WAC) dropped their game on Wednesday to in-state foe Utah, 7-0. Utah State created several chances but could not capitalize by plating a run. The Utes used a five-run third inning to dismiss USU. Sophomore outfielder Christine Cummings knocked two of the three hits for the Aggies, while sophomore Kassandra Uchida had the only other hit for the team with a double in the first inning.

Utah State recorded its first sweep of a WAC series the last time the Aggies and the Wolf Pack met in Reno, Nevada, last year. USU’s offense exploded to score 29 runs in the three-game series while holding the Wolf Pack to only five runs in the series. Nevada still leads the all-time series 19-17.

Following this weekend's action, the Aggies will hit the road once again to take on in-state rival Utah Valley in Orem, Utah. The game between the two Beehive State teams will be on Tuesday, April 3, with the first-pitch being delivered at 4 p.m.
