In typical fashion, Davis High’s track teams dominated the Davis District Championships at Syracuse High School this week claiming both the boys and girls team titles.

The boys won seven events and finished with 212 points to ease past Syracuse, which finished with 158.5 points.

The girls, meanwhile, were even more dominant winning 12 events and racking up 268 points with Woods Cross finishing second with 90 points.

“I'm really excited about the way our boys and our girls have started the season. Both last week at the Davis Super Meet and this week at the District Championships, our athletes have brought a lot of energy and excitement for their events and for their teammates,” said Davis coach Corbin Talley.

For the girls, Talley said Adelyn Jones, Sylvia Harrison, Christine Van Brocklin, Jessica Richardson, Bailey Carling and Ellie Child all really stepped up and had great meets.

Child and Harrison were double winners for the Darts, with Child winning the 800 and 1,600 meters and Harrison racing to titles in the 200 meters and 100 hurdles. Harrison is the defending 5A state champion in the 200 meters.

Davis swept all four relays as well.

Jill Richardson and Sosina Salima led second-place Woods Cross, with Richardson winning the 400 meters and Salima winning the shot put. Solima is the defending 4A state champion in the shot put.

The boys meet was much more balanced without a single double winner.

Talley said Trevor Leavitt, Jackson Sagers, Marcus Daley, Andrew Aposhian, Ammon Hanks and Sam Matina all turned in strong performances for the Darts.

Talley said the combination of Davis’ upperclassmen and underclassmen are producing great results thus far.

“We have some great senior and junior leaders on the team, and the new, young kids are really catching fire and working hard to make us better. At this point we are focusing on getting better week to week, on being passionate about what we are doing (workouts and meets), and on being unified,” said Talley.

Second-place Syracuse had five individual winners, two on the track and three in the field. Ashton Bigelow won the 300 hurdles with teammate Jaxon Hansen winning the 800 meters. In the field, Spencer Hull (shot put), Bradley Sherman (discus) and Zach Watson (pole vault) and captured first-place medals.
