SALT LAKE CITY — High school seniors and college undergraduates in Salt Lake County are eligible for a $500 scholarship offered by the Salt Lake Valley Health Department.

For the third consecutive year, the department's Division of Environmental Health will be awarding the prize to assist students who are pursuing careers relating to environmental protection.

Interested applicants must submit a 500-word essay describing a commitment to environmental protection and a sustainable society. Preference will be given to students involved in areas of study involving the environmental sciences, physical sciences, business and political science.

The award will be announced April 23.
