MAGNA — The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed Sunday just after 3 p.m. due to a fuel spill from a semitrailer near milepost 107 west of 7200 West.
The westbound semitrailer ran over some road debris, which was caught under the tractor, damaging fuel lines and causing about 30 to 40 gallons of fuel to spill across both westbound lanes, according to Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Dougherty.
A hazmat team responded, and sometime before 5 p.m. the spill was contained, Dougherty said.
Westbound I-80 was closed at 7200 West until the Utah Department of Transportation gives the go-ahead to reopen the travel lanes around 5:50 p.m.
There were no significant traffic delays in the area, Dougherty added.
