SALT LAKE CITY —A Florida man who was a former assistant basketball coach in Utah has been charged for an incident involving a 14-year-old boy on his team in 1997.
Paul Faherty, 40, allegedly had the boy over to his Salt Lake City residence on two occasions, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court. On both occasions, he had inappropriate sexual contact with the boy. On one occasion, the boy came over to watch the Super Bowl, and while he was watching television, Faherty gave the boy a Playboy magazine before the incident, charges state.
Court documents do not specify where Faherty was an assistant coach or whether he coached at a school.
Faherty was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy, both first-degree felonies.
He currently resides in Naples, Fla. and is a registered sex offender there. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement website, Faherty was convicted of sexual assault and promoting obscene material in New Jersey in a case that was adjudicated in 2000.
