Stanley, N.D. — A Utah man died in an oil-field accident Friday, according to the Mountrail County Sheriff's Office.

Jason R. McDonald, 22, of Vernal, fell about 80 feet from the derrick of a drilling rig, landing on the rig floor, said Sheriff Ken Halvorson.

Emergency responders were called to Frontier Drilling Rig No. 19 northeast of Stanley about 11 p.m., Halvorson said. McDonald was taken by ambulance to Montrail County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the sheriff said.

The North Dakota Forensic Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy.

The Occupation Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
