LAS VEGAS — The BYU women's basketball team shot 60 percent from the floor and upset top-seeded Gonzaga 78-66 to claim the West Coast Conference Tournament championship Monday afternoon at the Orleans Arena.

With the win, the Cougars (26-6) earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. BYU hasn't been in the NCAAs since 2007.

The Cougars not only shot 60 percent, but they also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs, 35-16.

Dani Peterson turned in a stellar performance, scoring a team-high 18 points to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Jennifer Hamson scored 17 points off the bench while Haley Steed had 17 and eight rebounds. Kim Parker tallied 10 assists.
