EUGENE, Ore. — Saturday's 94-48 loss at Oregon capped a winless road season for Utah. It marks just the third time in program history that the Utes failed to prevail on a single opponent's home court. They finished 0-12 in true road contests in 2011-12.
Utah also came up empty on the road in 1928-29 (0-8) and 1952-53 (0-11). The Utes, who have lost 17 consecutive games away from the Huntsman Center when including neutral sites, haven't had a winning season in true road games since going 7-3 in 2004-05. Since then, they're a paltry 23-64 (26.4 percent) on opposing floors.
The last victory came on Feb. 19, 2011, when Chris Hines hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Utah a 62-60 win over New Mexico at The Pit in Albuquerque.
BOWL-A-RAMA: Citing several reasons for doing so — like Thursday's late game at Oregon State and a short bench — Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak took the Utes bowling Friday, part of a team-building exercise.
"We may never do that again," he deadpanned when asked about it following Saturday's setback — the most lopsided loss in team history.
TOURNAMENT PREP: The Utes are scheduled to return to Salt Lake City Sunday morning and depart for Los Angeles and the Pac-12 Tournament on Monday. They'll face Colorado in the first round Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. (MT) in the Staples Center.
Although Utah didn't know if it would be playing UCLA, Stanford or Colorado until other games were completed Saturday, the coaching staff already had things in place.
"We've got all of the game tape and stuff that we need," Krystkowiak said while noting that preparation for the Buffaloes will begin in earnest on Sunday.
REGULAR SEASON FINALE: Before Saturday's game, Krystkowiak compared the end of the regular season to a workout, kind of like running on a treadmill.
"While you're in the middle of it, it seems like it can be quite a grind and it goes really slow," Krystkowiak said. "But then the minute it's over you kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then it's kind of like 'wow' where did that go."
