Two Utah Valley University students will test the strength of their product and seek funding during an appearance on the ABC reality show “Shark Tank” on March 2.
Dallas Robinson and Mike Buonomo, business management majors at UVU, developed a lip balm with flavors that enhance when mixed with another. While there are plenty of ways to mix the flavors, there is only one fun way: kissing.
"Shark Tank" is an ABC reality show where entrepreneurs pitch their products before a panel of investors who can then choose to invest in the product.
Robinson, a junior from South Jordan, Utah, came up with the idea for Kisstixx after running into embarrassments in dating from dry, chapped lips.
“The idea was stuck inside me and I could never shake it,” Robinson said. “I knew I’d just kick myself if I saw someone else develop and market the idea before me. I didn’t want to see this on a store shelf or on a TV commercial and say ‘I could have done that.’”
Buonomo and Robinson came up with flavors like “fire and ice,” “sweet and sour” and “peaches and cream” to make a kiss all the sweeter.
Their company would receive a huge boost if any of the “Shark Tank” investors decide to provide funding to Kisstixx.
“We’re really trying to take advantage of this exposure and launch into retail nationwide in large stores and eventually worldwide,” Buonomo, a sophomore from Pleasant Grove, Utah, said in a statement.
The episode runs on March 2 at 7 p.m. The two entrepreneurs are holding a public premier at the UCCU Center on the UVU campus where the first 600 attendees will receive a free Kisstixx product.
