LAS VEGAS — In the first of two matches in two days, the Utah State women’s tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 37 UNLV on Friday.
In the first doubles position, junior Jaci West and freshman McKenzie Davis lost to Nives Pavlovic and Aleksandra Josifoska, (8-1). Senior Romina Nedakovic and junior Kristina Voytsekhovich fell to UNLV’s Lucia Batta and Manon de Lanlay, (8-1). Freshman Kimberly Watts and senior Brianna Rowland (Harris) were the only USU pair to see success as they defeated Annet Ferenczi-Bako and Ella Bourchier, (8-5).
Moving to singles play, West fell in two sets to No. 50 Batta, (6-0, 6-2). Davis fought hard through three matches, but was dealt her first loss of the spring season at the hands of Josifoska, (6-1, 3-6, 6-2). Voytsekhovich was next and was topped by Pavlovic in two, (6-3, 6-2), followed by Nedakovic who lost to de Lanlay, (6-4, 6-1). Rowland (Harris) was then dropped in two sets by Ferenczi-Bako, (6-3, 6-3). Senior Julie Tukuafu earned the Aggies’ only point of the match, as well as her first win of the season, defeating Bourchier, (6-1, 6-3).
The USU women continue action from Las Vegas as they take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. (MT). Following the road trip, they will begin a five-match homestand, starting by hosting Seattle on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at noon at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
