EVANSTON, Wyo. — More than 200 pounds of marijuana that likely traveled through Utah was seized outside of Evanston on Tuesday, officials said.
Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers pulled over a trailer that was hauling automobiles on I-80 east of Evanston Tuesday morning for a traffic stop. A trooper discovered that the trailer was carrying one vehicle it was not authorized to carry and the driver had falsified his log book, according to the WHP.
Troopers searched the vehicles on the trailer and found approximately 139 pounds of high grade marijuana in the trunk of one and more than 102 pounds in the trunk of another, WHP officials said. The street value of the marijuana is estimated to be nearly $1.7 million, and it is believed to have originated in California and was headed for the Detroit area.
The driver, Hazem Izzat, 50, was arrested for investigation of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, according to the WHP.
