Thousands of coca farmers Monday stormed the offices of anti-drug police and four of the enraged cocaine-plant growers died during the clash triggered by rumors that U.S. agents would destroy their crops, officials said.

Authorities said 2,000 to 3,000 coca growers stormed the offices of anti-drug police in Villa Tunari, 186 miles southeast of the capital of La Paz, amid a series of dynamite blasts.Police spokeswoman Rosario Costas said four farmers were killed in the rampage, one of gunshot wounds and three others by drowning.
