The Vietnamese government, in a new reconciliation gesture to the United States, is calling for the revision or deletion of references to "U.S. imperialism" in the preamble to Vietnam's constitution, a Vietnamese source said Tuesday. A bill before the current session of the Vietnamese National Assembly would amend hostile references to China as well as the United States, the source said. Critical references to France and Japan also may be changed. "The idea (f such a bill) sounds logical, but I cannot confirm it has been submitted (o the Assembly)," Vietnamese Embassy spokesman Nguyen Van Quan said in Bangkok.
