Fire crews were mopping up hot spots Monday on one of two wildfires that burned a total of 700 acres of Bureau of Land Management land over the weekend.

The larger of the two fires burned 450 acres 6 miles west of Tabby Peak near the Cedar Mountain range, said Pete Hansen, Interagency Fire Center manager. That fire was started Saturday, probably by lightning, and was controlled Sunday.A Saturday wildfire near Cedar City that burned 250 acres was controlled the same day by BLM fire crews, said Lynn Williams, BLM state fire-management officer.

Several other one-tree fires caused by lightning were reported over the weekend, Hansen said.
