Brigham Young University professors Alan F. Keele and S. Neil Rasband have been appointed associate deans of Honors and General Education.

They will replace William Bradshaw, who will return to full-time research and teaching in the zoology department, and Tom Mathiesen, who is leaving the university. The appointments were announced by BYU President Jeffrey R. Holland.Keele has been a professor of Germanic and Slavic languages at BYU. He has served as associate chairman of the department and has taught German language and literature, humanities and world civilization for the Honors Program.

He has written several books and articles on postwar German authors. He has also published other books and articles on topics ranging from the Mormon resistance movement in the Third Reich to the historical connection between sports, games and war. He served as a member of the Area Advisory Council for the Alpine School District.

Rasband, a professor of physics and astronomy, has taught at BYU since 1972. He has recently done research on theoretical plasma physics and, in 1985-86, was a guest scientist at the Institute for Plasma Research at the University of Stuttgart in West Germany. He is also an active member of the American Physical Society and of Phi Beta Kappa.
