At least five convicts escaped Saturday from the Maryland House of Correction, but one was later recaptured after being shot in the hand, a prison spokeswoman said.

The escape occurred between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. from the prison, which is located on the Howard-Anne Arundel County line. At least five men got away, and a count was being made to determine if any other inmates fled. The facility was under a lockdown. Details of the prison break were not immediately available.
