Nearly 2 million Utah chickens laid 128 million eggs during the second quarter of 1988, the state Agriculture Department's Statistics Service said.

The egg production for the March-May period is up 3 percent from the same 3-month period last year, but down 2 percent from the first quarter this year, the service said.

During the quarter, Utah farmers had 1.972 million laying hens, up 4 percent from the number of birds during March-May 1987, but a 2 percent drop from this year's first quarter.
