Eighty-seven people have applied so far to coach the team that Tulane University will field when it brings back men's basketball for the 1989-90 season.

Tulane's athletic director, Chet Gladchuk, said the applicants include 51 present or former head coaches, such as Oklahoma assistant Jim Kerwin, Marshall University head coach Rick Huckaby, former New Mexico head coach Gary Colson and former Texas coach Bob Weltlich. The men's basketball program at Tulane was abandoned in 1985 because of point-shaving allegations.
