The two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers will be featured on one million boxes of Wheaties distributed in Southern California beginning next week.

The Lakers, who defeated the Detroit Pistons in seven games to become the first club in 19 years to repeat as league champions, are the third team to be honored by the cereal. Last fall, Wheaties featured the World Series champion Minnesota Twins on a limited edition package, then did the same with the NFL champion Washington Redskins in February.

Only six individuals have been on the front of the box: Rev. Bob Richards, Bruce Jenner, Mary Lou Retton, Pete Rose, Chris Evert and Walter Payton.
